OUR MOTTO

“We play with friends but we don't play friendly game..”

Chronicle of KPMGA

by D. B Matzin

Started its inauguration early in 2006 under the unification of jovial golf nuts who labeled it then as FOM Club, bestowed in honour of senior founding fellow old men (FOM) who were often targets of provocative remarks by their fellow young men (FYM). Ridiculed by 'slanders and insults’ in a number of friendly grueling pastime undermining their capabilities, FOM took the juvenile fellow mates to punishing defeat. Concluded on par if not better hat-trick of victories proved that the old horse still yearns to run....... As more and more FYM joined the club that it began to change its identity. The nuts called it KPMGA to reflect the atmosphere and eccentricity of kampung way of sport. The 'association' grew from a tiny seed to a mighty nut.

If you think, you’re Golf Nut – this will be a venue for you to sprout!!!

KPMGA Profile - Golfing Couple: Syed Zulkarnain KPMGA Member No.18, Nur Jannah Abdullah KPMGA Member No.60.

Fellow Members, below is the profile of Syed Zul and Nur Jannah who are one of the couples in KPMGA. Note that there are some more couples in KPMGA and we hope that they will also contribute in the future.

Golfing at Glenmarie Gardens Course

Name: Syed Zul/Nur Jannah
Age: A Century (combined.....hehehe)
Profession: Golfing on weekends
Status: Married to each other (off course!)
KGM Member: Yes
Home Club (if different from above) : KGNS (from end 2011)
Golf handicap : 24 & 26 (trending downwards....which is a good thing)
When did you start golfing ? Both in 2007
What is your best ever score ?
Syed - 75 net (NR - Non-returned, see incident below)
Nur - 67 net (Captain's Trophy KGM)
What is your most memorable golfing incident ?
Syed - Playing at Cengkerang, Jakarta (a very "scenic" golf course in all sense of the word.....ahem ahem)
Nur - 10 balls flight, 5 Msians + 5 Japanese healthy grannies on Day 3 of the Asian Ladies Interport tournament in 2011 in Bandung Giri Gahana course, West Jawa. Best ball format with total playing time of 6 hrs from start to finish!! (Mrs dah main kat Bandung and I belum lagi)
Can share your most disappointing golfing incident ?
Syed - NR on a competition in KGM where I played a 75 net as my marker did not record my score on the final hole and I did not check as I assumed that he did record the score when we went through the scores at the end of the game and he responded Yes, yes, yes, etc. Still my best score thus far in an official competiton. Lesson learnt is that you should always check!!
Nur - First KGM "friendly" ladies Tuesday morning competition. DQ-ed becoz I was 3 mins late for the shotgun tee off time. Supposed to be "friendly" but felt like a bully victim......learnt my lesson and was never later thereafter.
The best course that you have played at and why ?
IOI Palm Garden - nice new course.....old course was turned into a shopping centre cum office cum condominiun. You all should try the new course but a bit pricey though, more so on weekends and PH.

Syed Zul & Nur, look at the view behind us!

Your favourite hole in KGM and why ?
Hole 9 - an easy par 3 to end the front 9, can pre-order mee jawa and adjourn to it once you complete Hole 9. A close second comes Hole 13, put your order for laksa and pit stop after Hole 15 for the laksa. By the way, it is the makan that matters as the ball may end up being hooked into the bushes on Hole 9 as per Ali Sajut's experience or sliced OB to the right onto the road. Same for Hole 13 where a daunting pond awaits in front on your tee off or an OB if you hook your tee off. There is some respite if you slice as you may land on the island with the pine trees.

Your least favourite hole in KGM and why ?
Hole 10 - OB on left, water on right, 2 trees in the middle, narrow fairway. A lousy way to start off your game if your tee off for competitions starts on the back 9.
Your dream foursome ?
Syed Zul - with Tiger (no, I am not intimidated like Garcia.....hehehe), Ai Miyazato (small built and has a funny swing but wins competitions, her swing is better than Park In Bee, but Ai should change her leggings to match her T-shirt though as the black leggings are just awful looking), Nur and me
Nur - anyone who's in for the fun, goodwill and good sportsmanship.
Your golfing ambition, if any ?
Syed Zul - Single handicapper before I retire from golf
Nur - healthy and golfing into my 80's. Like my father, Mr. Leong Yun Seng who plays every week day mornings at KGM with his senior friends.
Your dream golfing destination ?
Syed Zul - Augusta (will most probably blow my handicap the first 6 holes....hehehe)
Nur - where ever hubby brings me (wink wink by Syed Zul)
